np: the only lie worth telling..

so the other night i had this nice little entry figured out. typed it all up. the computer locked. erased it all. so much for composition.

i'm really excited to be back working on compositions again, i think. i am really ready to fire the four-track up and let loose with a hail of ideas and chances. i literally want to make the best record possible, and to do that i think it will take me all summer. also, i'm going to try and set up somewhat of a residency at on common grounds here in town. i want to play at least once a month, if not every three weeks there during the summer. i'm calling them tomorrow to see what i can do about it. i'll let you know.

i got my job working at the summer camp. in case i hadn't enlightened y'all: i'm working on my educ. 301 course this summer which involves doing a 72 hour internship in an environment where i am a minority. i'll be working in a camp as a counselor for kids who are at or below the poverty level and are behind in basic skills. be it mathematics, literacy, etc. whatever. i basically get a classroom full of kids. i'm really excited and pumped to do this kind of work. it's brilliant classroom experience that will lend itself invaluable to me in the future. plus i have a reason not to work forty hours a week in that mall all summer. although, because of how i get paid by the camp (one lump-sum scholarship to go to the instution of my choice) i will have to continue to work part time at books-a-million, which is fine by me. i enjoy working there. i just hate the mall. i start back tomorrow actually. a glorious 2pm-close shift. i prefer those. i'm such a sicko. i just like my co-workers.

time to start reading voraciously again as well. i'm going to digest as much as i can.

oh, and i'm going to washington, d.c. on tuesday to see belle and sebastian and....

Sleater-Kinney!

it'll be my second time seeing them ever. it's going to be awesome. it's always great to see one of the "big eight" of my favourite bands. by the way...go pick up both of the new tom waits records. they're phenominal. just thought i'd share.

for on this day
we celebrate
reaching out
an end to hate
in all parts of world
where evil thrives
and hides the light
from our eyes
where truth is buried
beneath the weight
of centuries old
and centuries late
conflict and measure
over right and better
let us raise our voice

we won't rest on this matter.
