J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - Wednesday 25th September Andrew W.K. - "We Want Fun" [this is a re-recorded version (produced by rick rubin) of a song originally from his first EP. it's for the Jackass soundtrack] > Beck - "Paper Tiger" [off his new album, Sea Change, which is incredibly good, by the way] Bob Dylan - "Mississippi" [Love and Theft really gets me] Iron and Wine - "Bird Stealing Bread" [good alt-country/folk band on SubPop] Ryan Adams - "Halleluja" [off his new Demolition album] > Denison Witmer - "Stations" [brilliant instrumentalists, the Six Parts Seven, back Denison on this record and it's really stellar] The Jayhawks - "Sound of Lies" Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - "Oh, Cumberland" [from the new Will the Circle Be Unbroken Vol. III, features Emmy Lou Harris and another woman I wasn't familiar with on vocals. wow, it's gorgeous] Lucinda Williams - "Drunken Angel" > Nicolai Dunger - "Something New" [the Van Morrison comparisons aren't quelled by this song, but it's by far my favourite from his album. this swede swings] Drive-by Truckers - "Let There Be Rock" [easily the most kick ass song to successfully namecheck Blue Oyster Cult, Molly Hatchet, Ozzy, Randy Rhodes, AC/DC and Lynyrd Skynyrd, ever] Steve Earle - "John Walker Blues" [with all the controversy over the new (and brilliant) Earle record, i had to play this one] Aimee Mann - "Pavlov's Bell" > Neil Finn - "Last to Know" Hot Hot Heat - "Naked in the City Again" [another of the great, seemingly out-of-nowhere acquisitions that SubPop has landed in the past years. these chaps are on tour with the Pattern, so you know that show rocks hard] Flaming Lips - "Fight Test" [off their newest one, by request, although i love this song] Q and Not U - "So Many Animal Calls" [i got an interview with these guys when they come to carborro in october! i'm so excited. their new record floors me] > Sleater-Kinney - "One Beat" [like i said on air..the only thing keeping me from saying one beat is the best album of 2002, is the fact that paul westerberg put out a new record. heh.] Sixteen Horsepower - "Hutterite Mile" Neko Case - "Things that Scare Me" Division of Laura Lee - "Access Identity" [anyone getting play on mtv who claims to be punk could get totally schooled by these guys. and how. they take every great facet of punk from 1980 back and fuse it together. so great] > Wire - "Germ Ship" Gang of Four - "Call Me Up" [last night we saw Girls against Boys and the band Radio 4 opened for them. allmusic made a lot of comparisons between Radio 4 (who rocked) and Gang of Four, so i thought i'd try them out. good stuff] John Doe - "Faraway (from the North Country)" Soundgarden - "Mind Riot" [ahhh..easily one of the best songs from Badmotorfinger. talk about takin' it back in the day..] > Lou Reed - "Vicious" Mission of Burma - "Academy Fight Song" Primal Scream - "Damaged" [Screamadelica is an amazing record] > and the Mandatory 'Mats (the name for the last song of the show, which all year will be a different Replacements song): "Within Your Reach" from Hootenanny Thanks for reading. posted by J.
