Wednesday, September 18, 2002 np: loud talking. loud phone talking. so i thought it perfectly fitting that, in order to further boost my postings on here i shall now weekly post the song list from my radio show. it'll give you an inkling into what i've been listening to lately (or ever) as well as maybe some ideas of stuff to check out if you so desire. here's how it works: > = a voice break, words in [ ] are my own comments about specific songs, artists. all good? alright then. here we go. also, if anyone ever wants a tape copy of one of my shows (for whatever reason) just let me know and i'll be happy to get it to you. J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - Wednesday 18th September Neil Finn - "Driving Me Mad" [this is off of his new record one all which is amazing] > Aimee Mann - "High on Sunday 51" [also off her new record which is quite good] Apples in Stereo - "Rainfall" [again, off their new one] Paul Westerberg - "Good Day" Michael Penn - "Don't Let Me Go" > Nicolai Dunger - "I'd Rather Die" [this guy sounds exactly like astral weeks-era van morrison. his album, soul rush is awesome.] Mary Lou Lord - "Sayanora" [cover of the Pogues song from her live cd recorded in the Boston subway] Mike Johnson - "Names" [ex-Dinosaur Jr. bass player] R.E.M. - "Cuyahoga" [one of my all time favourite REM songs] > Queens of the Stone Age - "First It Giveth" [cos of the hype i want to not like this record..but it's too good] Q and Not U - "Everybody Ruins" [off their upcoming album, different damage, which is fucking incredible.] Wire - "In the Art of Stopping" [their read and burn ep is astoundingly good] Division of Laura Lee - "Number One" [i can't wait to see these guys on halloween] > John Doe - "Faraway (from the North County)" Kristin Hersh - "Spain" Grant Lee Phillips - "Humankind" [these three are playing a show together tomorrow in chapel hill. i'm going. the new John Doe album is terrific.] Girls Against Boys - "Basstation" [off their new one, they play next week at go! studios] > Neko Case - "Tightly" Sixteen Horsepower - "Alone and Foresaken" [a kickin' Hank Williams cover] Merle Haggard - "Always Late (with your kisses)" [a kickin' Left Frizzell cover and one of my favourite country songs of all time] Jay Bennett and Edward Burch - "My Darlin'" [Bennett's reworking of the song he wrote on Summerteeth with Wilco. this version isn't as good, but it's interesting] > Sleater-Kinney - "Funeral Song" [their new album kicks my ass] Steely Dan - "Barrytown" [heheh..i love Steely Dan] Tom Waits - "Cold, Cold Ground" Steve Earle - "Me and the Eagle" > Tragically Hip - "Escape is at Hand for the Travelling Man" Del Amitri - "Tell Her This" ['..tell her something in my heart needs her more than even clowns need the laughter of the crowd..' god that line gets me everytime] Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise - "Once Upon a Time" [i taped this song off of MTV when it premiered using the microphone on my computer. i love it to this day.] The Replacements - "Left of the Dial" [since i ended last week's show with "here comes a regular," i think ending the show with a 'mats song is going to become a regular thing.] if you read all that...wow. thanks. posted by J.
