i've been listening to a lot of bob dylan. i bought four dylan albums i didn't have off of cdnow and have been especially listening to another side of. i did my first radio show of the year last wednesday and since it was sept. 11th i played this nice cover of dylan's "chimes of freedom" that bruce springsteen did. after it i played "far away" from the new sleater-kinney, steve earle's cover of the flying burrito brothers' "my uncle," randy newman's "political science" and john prine's "your flag decal won't get you into heaven anymore." i felt like being slightly antagonistic. but no one called. alas.
utilitarianism is an interesting concept. i love the phrase 'hedonic calculus.' something about it makes me smile and want to write things about it. delve into these concepts and explore.
where's my guitar?

i've spent the time lately
i've spent betraying you
thinking about how it feels
to be on this side of things
words like 'better' and 'worse'
don't seem to realise
they cannot place
what's at stake in words
all i know is deep at night
in darkness and in warmth
i sense my love through each and every pore
it doesn't even matter
how good i think it feels
i just keep knowing it's not you
where i fell through
i'm climbing back
where i'm swimming
i'm keeping track
of all these things
i should have done
to keep my world
in view of your sun
all i seem to fathom
when i get to letting go
is that patience is
a virtue i can't afford
my chances are going
through the cracks in my hands
so i'm taking up
what little i have left
all i know is deep at night
in darkness and in warmth
i sense my love through each and every pore
it doesn't even matter
how good i think it feels
i just keep knowing it's not you
