Friday, October 04, 2002 np: jurassic 5 - power in numbers J's Indie/Rock Mayhem - Wednesday 2nd October Peaches - "Rock Show" [if i had a theme song...this would be it. the Peaches album is awesome] > Pulp - "Weeds" [opening track off the newly stateside released album. i, of course, bought it while in london last fall and paid for it by the american version having two bonus tracks. damn limeys.] Polaris - "Hey, Sandy" [oh, yeah. themesong to The Adventures of Pete and Pete] Hot Hot Heat - "No Not Now" The Kinks - "Do You Remeber Walter?" [classic stuff] > Denison Witmer - "24 Turned 25" [awesome song from his new record. saw him play an in-store at gate city noise earlier this week and he was not only phenominally good but incredibly nice. catch him on tour and talk to him if you do.] Bob Dylan - "All I Really Wanna Do" [from Another side of Bob Dylan easily one of my favourite Dylan songs. a woman called in later and said that she generally didn't like Dylan much, but that she loved this song. made me feel good.] Johnny Cash - "Personal Jesus" [yup. a depeche mode cover. it's awesome. from his upcoming album.] X - "White Girl" [after seeing John Doe and Kristin Hersh play this song together at the Exile Follies tour, it seemed like a natural for today's show. it fit the vibe well.] > Sleater-Kinney - "Combat Rock" [pseudo by request. i was going to play sleater-kinney anyway, but j. ball called in and asked specifically for this song. so there you have it.] Mclusky - "To Hell with Good Intentions" [definitely Pixies influence all over this album. plus it's produced by steve albini. what more do you want?] Mission of Burma - "That's When I Reach for my Revolver" [two guys from High Point called in and wanted to hear some Minutemen, but unable to find any (cos i'm an idiot. see later in this post.) I threw on some Mission of Burma instead. not a bad substitution and a great song.] Gun Club - "Ghost on the Highway" [having read so much about Fire of Love recently, I threw this on to check it out and totally loved it. fit well with the Mission song.] > Drive-by Truckers - "The Three Great Alabama Icons" [brilliant spoken word piece about the oft-uncovered history surrounding George Wallace. a truly educational and interesting track. i love the truckers so much.] Steve Earle - "Ashes to Ashes" The Only Ones - "Another Girl, Another Planet" [classic.] Radio 4 - "Start a Fire" [off their new album, Gotham. brilliant stuff. they opened for girls against boys last week and tore the roof off. gang of four/clash influenced dancey punk. gotta love it.] > Flogging Molly - "Devil's Dance Floor" [still, to me, their most incendiary number. nothing compares.] Jurassic 5 - "Quality Control (clean edit)" [awesome, classic jurassic. their new album just landed in my hands today. here's hoping.] The Scaries - "800 Miles" [the best song these guys have ever written. hate to say that, but it's the most immediately pleasing, consistantly, over and over.] Andrew W.K. - "We Want Fun" > Neko Case - "Pretty Girls" [damn schoolwork kept me from going to see miss case last night. i'll see her one day.] Sixteen Horsepower - "Single Girl" [Carter Family cover.] The Minutemen - "Bob Dylan Wrote Propaganda Songs" [so after having a conversation with an ex-music director, i figured out i'm an ass and didn't look in the punk vinyl for the minutemen. i'd just looked in the general stacks. so of course we had all their albums except the one the requesters wanted. so i took this one off of What Makes a Man Start Fires?] Wire - "In the Art of Stopping" [from their new EP] > Belly - "Red" [by request. from their King album.] Iggy Pop and the Stooges - "Gimme Danger" The Modern Lovers - "Roadrunner" The Heartbreakers - "Born to Lose" [these three were requests from Adam (the ex-MD) who wanted to hear some proto-punk. some of you may call me on labeling "gimme danger" as Iggy Pop and the Stooges instead of just the Stooges, but Raw Power was in fact recorded after their first break-up and re-uniting and the band was billed as such for that album. crazy.] > Q and Not U - "Meet Me in the Pocket" Mandatory 'Mats (The Replacements) - "Can't Hardly Wait" from Pleased to Meet Me Until next week.. posted by J.
