Friday, February 21, 2003 np: hummmmm tomorrow night i'm going to see dilated peoples at the cradle. they are so good live. i'm very psyched. today: 07:30 - wake up. 07:50 - re-wake up, get in shower. 08:13 - get into car, drive to ragsdale high. 08:32 - arrive at ragsdale as bells ring. 08:40 - 11:45 - observe at school. my first period observing and of course i end up in the lecture hall at an assembly. registration for the junior class. the two classes that i'll be normally working with are a creative writing course and junior english, which in north carolina is american literature. they're working on the crucible right now. not my favourite arthur miller play (that, of course, is death of a salesman) but not too bad. suzanne, my supervising teacher, seems to have a good report with the kids. she's a very laid back teacher. she might indulge their jokes and interruptions a bit much..but not to the point where it haults the class cold. she's not my style of teacher, but she seems to be effective. and that's what counts, yes? 11:45 - 14:00 - drive back to apartment; read Herodotus and eat bean and rice burrito. i'm really enjoying Herototus' the histories. how perverse and a geek am i? it's almost as odd as how much i enjoyed that fagles translation of the illiad. that greek class is turning out well. 14:10 - 15:25 - ancient greece: homer to socrates. we had a debate, as athenians, about whether or not to role over to the persian invasion by darius. was an interesting debate. i mean, we all know how it turned out right? battle of marathon and all that jazz. there are some frustrating folk in that class, but some really good ones too. and it balances out. 15:30 - 19:15 - worked some, tried to concoct a lesson plan using excerpts from the big sleep as an exercise in identifying genres, but failed. at some point fell asleep. woke up in a panic about the lesson plan for tonight. 19:45 - 22:15 - concocted an updated version of last week's l.p. and pulled it off in okay style. i really love my education class. i really like the professor, love the other two people in the class also. it's a really sturdy, supportive environment for honing our skills. i walk out of there feeling really good each week. which is astounding for any class. this day has been long, but i'm not incredibly tired. although i'll be heading to bed soon. i also didn't eat much today. in addition to the bean/rice burrito i've had: one philadelphia cream cheesecake bar, 3 claussen dill pickle spears, 2 sun-drops, 4-5 glasses of sweet ice tea, a couple of sour gummy bears. that's it. not a lot. but i'm not really hungry either. that's how it goes i guess. it is time to head to bed. so much to do tomorrow. tom tomorrow's blogs today were really good, very informative. did anyone else catch the GAO dropping their lawsuit against Dick Cheney?
