as sara pointed out in my guestbook, truly, i should've been back by now. why i have not been is an interesting story for those of you not in my immedate vacinity. you guys know what happened. the rest of you do not.

on friday night at sxsw, while walking back to my hotel from seeing the final show of the evening, i was hit by a drunk driver. i don't remember any of this. all i know is that thanks to the work of my just-met and now excellent friend johanna from rochester, ny, when i did regain consciousness, i was in breckinrdige hospital in austin. i have a skull fracture and i believe another small lesion on the back of my head, none of which required stitches. all in all i'm quite lucky to have come out this well.

since then i've been going through really tough, constant headaches and a desire to do nothing much but sleep or lay down. it's been the only way, up until today, that i felt even remotely okay. i haven't been hungry at all and i am eating more or less because i know i have to, not because i feel like it. during my two days at the hospital i threw up several times while eating so i'm sure that more than turned me off for a bit.

my dad flew down to austin and they released me on sunday. we flew back into raleigh late sunday night and arrived home a few hours later. since then i've seen my local general practitioner (whom i'm also scheduled to see again later today) and mostly just lain about while various relatives and friends called and wished me well. even kent chabotar, president of guilford college, called me, which was a plesant surprise. it seems all is coming together for our potential panel with howard coble. more on that as it arrives. (if you're in the greensboro area, save april 15th.)

i just wanted to update those of you (sara, et. al) about where i was so you weren't worrying. i'll post a nice description of my south by southwest experiences a little later on. right now, i think i actually feel hungry. until i speak to you all, take care.
