Wednesday, March 05, 2003 np: richard buckner - self-titled ugh. so last night after a small night of drinking with gabe at wild mags, we went to denny's. gabe is taking leave of us at the end of march to head back to santa fe. the job market for graduates here seems to have withered. and he knows he has something if he goes back. we're certainly going to miss him. tuesday night at wild mags is normally two dollar pint night, a really great deal especially on some more expensive beers. we usually go and have a leisurely evening knocking back a few. well, silly us. last night was their mardi gras celebration and not only was the place spilling over with people, but the beer was full price. that'll teach you. so we ended up at denny's afterward, a really nice place to get late night food in greensboro because of its offering of veggie burgers. jan's has veggie burgers also which are quite good, but denny's uses boca patties which are my favourite store bought brand. a quarter of the way through my burger, i noticed the look and taste of it being funny. and investigated. yup. it was real. you know, i realised while i was in the shower just now that it's been more or less two years since i gave up eating beef. and it rarely bothers me anymore. i've found a very easy way around most beef product. i've even found that i really enjoy cooking with tofu and some other things. granted, since then, my ideas about consumption of meat have developed further. for starters, wasted food tends to be a bigger crime than the fact that animals are cooked to begin with. so, for instance, if i go to taco bell as i am want to do, and order something with beans and get it with beef, i eat it. why? because if i were to give it back to them, they'd toss it away. so i eat it. simple enough. last night at denny's, i found that i didn't feel good after eating that quarter of a burger. and i found that i was fairly upset (internally) about it. so i think i'm working on giving up other meats as well. everything from here on out is tough. especially pork and chicken. i don't think i'm going to abandon seafood as of yet. barbecue (being from north carolina) may be the toughest thing to eschew. along with chicken. but, we'll see. i feel like it's the right thing to do. but it's easy to see that beef eating leads to odd dreams...this is going to sound so lame... so i'm in some sort of classroom. espaƱol, i think..although the teacher reminds me a lot of bobko, my intro. to computers instructor here at school. for some reason, the members of jurassic 5 are in my class. j. ball was sitting next to me and nearly gets kicked out of class for talking. but it was really my fault, so i take the blame. quasi-bobko moves me over into a corner, where i mumble to myself. he gets mad at me again for talking, and then, inexplicably, i bust into a free-style about how talking to myself just comes natural. i forget the words, but i do remember working in something about dr. pepper. later on, the classroom had morphed into some sort of bookstore with a window stage where j5 was performing. i saw (and here's the really strange part) master p. and his son (yes, little romeo) come in the backdoor, followed by who i'm not sure was, but seemed to be ghostface killah in a wheelchair. i spoke with him for a minute. he told me he'd been shot and i reminded him that i'd met him backstage at the cradle before. which apparently in the dream, i had done. note to all: i've never met ghostface. oi. i'm on the air tonight again, finally. tune in for what should be a hell of a show. 6pm - 8pm on 90.9fm wqfs. posted by J.
