Wednesday, April 30, 2003 np: the church - heyday First comes this fantastic piece of news from the peer-to-peer wars. The ruling leaves the ownership companies of Grokster and Gnutella in the clear for legal liability over their software. The programs are capable of being used for both legal and illegal things, so the companies themselves aren't responsible if a user decides to break the law. This has put a huge kink in what had seemed like the ongoing march to victory for the record labels of late. It's very similar to a decision in the Netherlands last year which found a similar verdict for the Kazaa company. The music industry has been fighting off its slow deterioration and evolution over the past years, but it slowly seems to be losing the fight in the wake of ever improving programs and technology. The record industry is going to have to change if they want to survive. Chuck D. has been talking this game for years. He's known what's up for some time now. When will Berttlesmann (sp), Sony et. al ever learn?
