Saturday, April 05, 2003 np: the sound of me needing to go to bed. let's do it. j's indie/rock mayhem - 2nd april 2003 Theme Song - Peaches - "Rock Show" > Placebo - "Special Needs" [from their absolutely stunning new record. it really could be their best yet. no foolin'.] Moving Units - "Between Us and Them" Johnny Cash - "Rusty Cage" [my copy of cash's unchained and soundgarden's badmotorfinger lay almost exactly next to eachother in my book. so i had to choose which version of "rusty cage" i wanted. the man in black won out.] Supergrass - "Grace" > the Minus 5 - "Daggers Drawn" Aimee Mann - "High on Sunday 51" M. Ward - "Outta My Head" [a great new album out on merge records.] Cody Chesnutt - "5 on a Joyride" [finally i got to hear the headphone masterpiece and it is a joy to behold. a brilliant double album of lo-fi r&b and hip-hop. quite a re-affirmation of the continuing rebirth of ingenuity in music] > Lucinda Williams - "Real Live Bleeding Fingers and Broken Guitar Strings" [from her amazing new album, world without tears] The Stooges - "No Fun" [i ran into the station's copy of this old gem on vinyl. i couldn't resist.] Gary Numan/Tubeway Army - "Listen to the Sirens" Midnight Oil - "My Country" [incredibly relevent song to our times] > Kathleen Edwards - "Westby" [god bless her. every one.] The Jayhawks - "Tailspin" [this, from their newest album, rainy day music. this song was stuck in my head for nearly two days. i avoided listening to it just so i'd have an orgasm in the studio when i finally got to hear it again.] Big Star - "September Gurls" [never travel far without a little big star.] the B-52s - "52 Girls" > Birddog - "Red Red Wine" [new record featuring help from paul oldham. damn, those oldhams are everywhere these days.] Buzzcocks - "Wake Up Call" Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter - "Drinking with Strangers" [what a lovely song.] Paul Brill - "Macon" > Stephen Malkmus - "(Do Not Feed) The Oyster" [from his new album with the jicks, pig lib and yes it's every bit as good as you hope for.] the Stone Roses - "I Wanna Be Adored" Sleater-Kinney - "All Hands On the Bad One" Q and Not U - "A Line in the Sand" [they're playing monday night at duke coffee house in durham. i'll be there.] > Josh Rouse - "Directions" [found out his new album, 1972 is due for release this summer. hoorah for one of america's best songwriters!] Whiskeytown - "Excuse Me If I Break My Own Heart Tonight" The Clash - "Train in Vain" Meat Puppets - "Plateau" [if you've never heard the full, original meat puppets' II album, you're missing out. do yourself a favour and listen to this twisted piece of rock genius.] > The Mandatory 'Mats - The Replacements - "Valentine" thanks for reading. posted by J.
