np: teenage fanclub - songs from northern britain
nothing better to end a weekend than brilliant pop songwriting.
i don't know that i have much to say. i just had the urge to write. certainly, last night went well. i played my set. opened with "2 Kool 2 B 4-gotten" and also did "Windfall" and "If Only You Were Lonely" as far as covers go. i played a few new songs. gloriously muddled the new homeless/iraq/military song i had. i played the new piece i wrote using a section from jenny's short story she sent me. that went really well. as did "surface for air" and "tall and slow," both of which i adore immensely and am pretty sure will be on the next album. of which i plan to start construction this summer. it's something i feel really vibrant about for the first time since the last one was done. (christmas time 2000-2001). i've even thought about taking selections from whatever i record this summer and sending them off places. i never even tried. so why not start? i feel as if i have a bit to offer as a songwriter. creatively and so forth. so it's worth trying.
i've decided though (as all my ideas about what i want to do have changed in my life) that if i ever became a musician professionally (as i've often thought), i'd be more of a studio recording artist. i feel something in the vein of michael penn, how he creates amazing records but doesn't tour that much. he also does a lot of producing. of course..i'd be happy being a teacher and a musician. heh.
this summer..a writing regimine (both lyrics and music) is in order, i believe. at least, i think. we'll see. and recording also. i want more songs than i can use. yeah. well, here's to grand plans.
