np: more heavy rain against the window.
it's been day after day of rain here. and although we need it so badly, it's gotten to the point where there's too much. and most of it won't be soaked into the groundwater. and most of it will go to waste. still..it's an amazingly soothing sound. i think i may crawl into bed with the clinton wars and read for a bit. but first:
today at work, i was leaning against the counter during one of the rather dull periods when in walked a customer. a teenage looking girl who was rather attractive in a tight, fitting t-shirt and short jean shorts. but what made her an absolute vision wasn't her looks. if anything they were typical attractiveness, not something unique and outstanding that would make me look twice for different reasons.
her left arm was amputated at the elbow.
and why this has left such a sharp and vivid image upon me i can't explain. something in her. the sharp contrast of images. the dress and mannerisms of the modern american teenage female, fed on media hype and culture barrons. the very indicators that ought to represent the most self-conscious, image-conscious feelings and thoughts.
and she's missing a limb.
something about it was so incredibly beautiful i wanted to stare at her for hours. i wanted to ask her how it happened. i wanted to ask her if she had phantom limb feelings. if she had nightmares. dreams. numbness.
