Thursday, May 15, 2003 np: whiskeytown - "dancing with the women at the bar" so the great album organization process began tonight. first, i have to figure out what songs i want to record. then, i have to record them. then i have to mix them together. then i'm done. but that'll be awhile yet. tonight began by me digging through some of my songs for stuff to use. i don't have everything at my fingertips right now, as my computer is in its box. so my text files on there are out of my hands at the moment. even though i laid my hands on some things, i've been talking with so many people of late, gathering ideas for writing, that the largest accomplishment this evening was the writing of a new song. i stumbled upon a chord i really liked. so, it became the basis for the song. and when i'd written the music, i sat down with what was on my mind. namely, this. "this february romance of ours" you said: there was little i could do to salvage anything at all. you asked: that i not call anymore. and i guess that's what i'll do. it's so close so close so close but so far away. it snowed in boone on that feburary day the day i guess i first met you. your voice was tired and the energy gone from beneath the bedrock you rode. it's so close so close so close but so far away. this old winter romance we ran the well dry and i'm not sure i know just exactly how come the water ran so high and then came down so low. i'm so close so close so close but so far away. the title isn't set in stone, but i like it. the story that inspired this writing (some of the details are blurred and manipulated, i admit) had me thinking on it for a few days. but i plan to write even as the recording goes on. with my last tape, i wrote several of the songs that ended up on it as i was recording. so it pays to do so. i need an album title name. over the past three years i've put together various ones, depending on my mood of the moment. but all those were so immersed in that moment, that it's impossible or rather, inaccurate to use them now. the last three have come to me in bursts of something. we'll see again. oh, and since jenny did chide me about mentioning her more in my blog: she is quite an amazing writer. i read a short story she wrote last evening and was quite floored with how much and how well i identified with the main character. he did everything right. in that: i would've done it the same. that doesn't mean it was the correct thing to do, just that it is. and i like that. thanks, jenny. posted by J.
