Tuesday, August 12, 2003 np: sunny day real estate - "killed by an angel" a great song from their swan song the rising tide album. if you're interested in what the former members of sunny day are up to these days, check out their new band, the fire theft. three of the four original members are in it (the sole holdout being nate mendelson who still keeps his gig with the foo fighters) and it's quite good from what i've heard. real short thing: to the right you'll notice a link to amazon.com. if you are planning on purchasing items from them, if you link to their website by clicking here, i get a small referral kickback. furthermore, if i specifically link you to items in the future (albums, books, etc.) that you're interested in buying, purchasing them through my links gives me a bit more of a payoff. so, anyone who does, i appreciate it. today's update might be short. we'll see how i feel. but the key is in this article over at the washington post. (thanks to tom tomorrow for the link.) it has to do with al franken's new book that's coming out this fall titled: Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. fox news has launched a lawsuit against franken for the use of the phrase "fair and balanced" which as we all know swept the recent media awards for 'best comedic, ungodly lie in a cable news motto.' (for those of you who aren't obsessed like me, 'fair and balanced' is the fox news slogan.) so, at tom's behest, you'll note the new motto at the top of the browser. and if you have a blog at which you regularly post (sorry, b.) then if you feel so inclined, do the same. plus, i knew i loved washington state for a reason. god bless 'em. and wow. the argument rages on and on, as it will forever, about what our founding fathers' intent was with the constitution. but this is the first time i've read something quite this blunt. The bill for establishing religious freedom, the principles of which had, to a certain degree, been enacted before, I had drawn in all the latitude of reason and right. It still met with opposition; but, with some mutilations in the preamble, it was finally passed; and a singular proposition proved that its protection of opinion was meant to be universal. Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed, by inserting the word "Jesus Christ," so that it should read, "a departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by a great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mahometan, the Hindoo, and Infidel of every denomination. - Thomas Jefferson i get fed up with the early history of this country sometimes...but every so often, a ray of light that illustrates that we've been on the right track shines through. and it's a great feeling. now to just prevent our current set of would-be kings from mucking it up. 2004 is coming. and frankly..it's boom or bust. i'm holding out for a boom. posted by J.
