Monday, December 01, 2003 np: oasis - (what's the story) morning glory? an album that i have loved for quite some time now. the cassette copy lept back into my car tape player this week and hasn't left. it used to be that "cast no shadow" was my favourite song..and to a large extent it hasn't left that lofty perch. but the singles are what have jarred my mind of late. "wonderwall" and "don't look back in anger" especially. ryan adams' recent cover of "wonderwall" probably sparked in my mind a desire to hear the original. and i'm sure that's what set me on the present course of oasis listening. today is world AIDS day. important that we take time to remember those who suffer from this terrible disease. the children born with it every year, often times in nations where they cannot afford proper treatment, abandoning them to a short, painful existence. those that contract it through the sharing of needles. those who are accidentally given it through blood transfusions. those who are given it by someone they loved. those who are unaware and pass it on. those who have it, period. part of the largest way to stop the spread of AIDS is education. if you're sexually active, use protection. be tested regularly if you sleep with multiple partners. know your status. no one deserves to die. certainly not when it's preventable. lastly, donate to local AIDS based charities. here in greensboro, the triad health project does amazing work with AIDS sufferers and their families. there are programs like this in cities all over the u.s. and they desperately need your help, both monetary and voluntary. so please, if you do live here in greensboro, take some holiday funds this season and donate or take some time and volunteer to help. one person can make a major difference. another way for us to help is through my amazon links. here's the offer to everyone who reads this blog: if you purchase something off of my wish list (which means a gift for me) or anything through this link (or the permanent amazon link on the right side of the page), a percentage of the purchase will come to me. between now and december 31st 2003, any revenues made on purchases through this site will be donated to the Triad Health Project. amazon only pays me in multiples of 10 whole dollars, so if an amount falls between multiples, i will round up for the donation total. so every penny that you indirectly donate through the links will reach the THP. sound like a deal? i thought so. let's make this a happy holiday season for everyone. purchase gifts for the one you love (or for yours truly) and donate money to a fantastic organization in the process. check out the j's indie/rock blog to nominate your favourite albums of 2003 for the J's Indie/Rock Top 25 of 2003 show coming up later in december. details forthcoming. either email me or leave a comment in the comment boxes on the blog. posted by J.
