Monday, January 12, 2004 np: big star - "thank you friends" i'm not much of a sports person usually, but i found myself rather drawn into the nfl season this year. mostly because the area team has done so well, surprisingly. so, for now, i'll hold my comments down to just this: damn. how 'bout them panthers? all hell is breaking loose. numerous things.. if you live in d.c...make sure you vote in the primary tomorrow, 13th january. 'why,' you ask? because. despite the fact that d.c. has no delegates, any candidate who is or has taken the time to run in that primary has a vested interest in the free d.c. movement. in other words, they are for the establishment of d.c. representation in congress. so, get out and vote. because basically anyone you vote for has your interest in mind. you can't go wrong. second..unless you are an un-observant twat who needs to get their head out of the sand (and fast) you are aware of the paul o'neill mess. the interview on 60 minutes on sunday was a fascinating exercise. o'neill seemed somewhat convinced that, despite his book being heavily critical of the bush administration, that he wasn't being too critical. and already the fisticuffs have begun. various statements from the white house basically have called out o'neill as touting the sour grapes of a fired ex-worker. (o'neill was heaved out of the bush administration after he refused to support the most recent set of tax cuts.) i won't get much more detailed but if you want to track this mess, read atrios and if you want to track the primaries read dailykos. that's that. two last bits of political news..john edwards got a surprise push from iowa's biggest newspaper today. surprising given his middle-of-the-pack performance thus far. with the iowa caucus next week...could it make a difference? he wouldn't make a bad opponent to bush. i just don't know if he could take him down. finally, living in a state with a may 4th primary (thus, the democratic nominee will long be chosen by the time i vote), i have finally decided which candidate i will vote for. the primaries are an easier choice. really, whomever wins the democratic nomination, i will vote for. yes, fear has bullied me into my vote. in 2000, long before it became obvious how much of a liar and a non-centrist bush was, it was easy to argue the democrat/republican-as-one-party theory. gore didn't seem to offer much of an alternative. and while i always would have preferred him to bush, i wasn't too worried. so i voted for nader. not that it would have mattered, living in a state that bush carried far too easily. a vote for gore was just as useless. needless to say, living in north carolina, i feel incredibly disenfranchised. that being said.. i support dennis kucinch. if there ever was an idealist, someone i could very much identify with, it is he. and here's hoping that first, he can make an impact on the candidacy of the eventual nominee. he can help force the democratic rhetoric more to the left. and second, that he will continue to make an impact as a member of congress. the people of ohio are represented incredibly well by his honesty and dedication. and to syl..god bless you. and keep you to your rest. posted by J.
