np: the byrds - "you're still on my mind"
i should really stop taking chunks of my planning period to post to my blog. but until this tutoring program actually begins functioning, i have the equivalent of two planning periods a day. two periods to plan two classes. and frankly, i'm getting bored. conversely, however, i really have no immediate desire for this period of getting paid for the extra planning period to stop.
the main reason i decided to post is to posit this skull scratcher:
bearing in mind the brief period of time during which laser disc players were en vogue and affordable (which, granted, was longer than en vogue was en vogue), why is it every school i've ever been a student or teacher at had one, yet i try to go downstairs just now to reserve a DVD player and we don't have any? DVD players have been fairly affordable for 3+ years now. i got mine at christmas of 2001 for just under a hundred dollars. and at this point, with the massive catalogue of VHS tapes that schools have undoubtedly racked up, only a few DVD players would be necessary. VHS players are standard in each classroom, but a few DVD players would cover the need of the entire school for the next few years. yet again we see the effect of lack of funding. c'est la escuela. sorry for the mangling of french and spanish there.
