np: wilco - "muzzle of bees"
being that it's april fools day, this will seem like a rather garish entry in this blog. but given the horrific events in iraq yesterday, i think it's important.
billmon ruminates on the gut-level reaction from a lot of militaristic people over here in the u.s. in the wake of the murders yesterday and cries foul on the ridiculous notion that culture, terrorism and violence are somehow inherently linked in certain cultures but not others.
afterall, how far removed are we from our terrorist legacy? (warning: graphic photos. discretion advised.) and sure, we have come a long way from the turn of the prior century, when lynchings averaged 2 or 3 per week in states of the union. but we have done anything but escape it. matthew shepard and james byrd jr. would have to disagree with any statement to the contrary.
take the time to read billmon's post, visit the without sanctuary site and just absorb it all for a bit today.
i'm already convinced. but still, my choice for november just became a lot more clear.
