Sunday, April 25, 2004 np: willie nelson - stardust the laziness in me is an inherent thing that i have to overcome at various stretches. lately i felt rather ridiculous cos i had moved my stereo out to the living room for the party we had back in march. and it took me until last weekend to get around to moving it back into my room. now, granted, it's a rather large stereo and took some moving around of items. but the stereo itself is not very heavy. at all. and really i'm just lazy. but finally i got it back in and resumed my tendency to set the sleep timer on the stereo and go to sleep to music. which last night was nelson's stardust. a beautiful record. a good friend of mine from my high school days (and really, from all my days hence; that has not changed) came through town to visit last night on his way home. and i realized how i limit myself sometimes. for a long time i've realized that the key to my understanding and learning is dialogue. i learn and think best when i am able to talk out ideas one on one with someone. it's like it gives my thoughts concrete form to move and shape. but there are times where i feel defeated by things that i am attempting. but do i seek out the source of people to converse with and help me out? i feel embarassed almost to feel like i need help with things, especially teaching. why do i not realize that i'm still in my first year? why do i not really buy into the idea that i profer for everyone else: that life is a constant evolution and a constant growth. at best, you never get to the pinnacle. as the tragically hip once said: "there's nothing uglier than a man hitting his stride." andrew and i had some really great conversations about relevance, curriculum orchestration, human nature. and i really think we accomplished something. i rarely have conversations that good and that productive it seems. and while there is little i can do for this year, there's always next fall. some of it is going to involve humbling myself. i've a bit of an ego at times, even if it is masked (or not so masked) in my quaker/amiable sensibilities. so, though i rarely do things like this, striving to maintain this journal as something more, i couldn't resist given my sense of humor and the fantastic replies i've seen elsewhere. in the comment box: ask me three questions; no more, no less. it can be about anything. it can be completely random. i don't care what the questions are, just ask. we'll see how this goes. or who reads this far. posted by J.
