np: division of laura lee - das not compute
this album comes out tomorrow and it's quite, quite good. i'm still absorbing it enough to give a fair comparison to their previous black city, but i think it will stand nicely.
blogger has had a face lift and added some nifty features including built-in comments. however, i test posted them and don't know that i'm that satisfied, so for the time being i will remain with using haloscan. the limit on characters without paying is somewhat of a pain, but until i can establish that blogger's comments are what i want, it's the preferable way. unless i'm doing things wrong, you have to click on individual post links before you can even see the option to leave a comment. that's troublesome.
this will be a light post as the chaos continues around us with abu ghraib/rumsfeld and the various fall out. this includes the sudan being able to accuse us of human rights violations. now, the irony here is large and unavoidable, but sudan has been re-elected to another three-year term on the UN's human rights board and we could do nothing more than walk out in protest. why? two words: abu ghraib. we have no footing anymore.
a tip o' the hat to charlie for pointing this site out to me. brandon bird is a right talented artist who has a sharp eye for the mix of low and high art that, i must say, is never not funny. some of my favorites are here,here,here,here and here. the last one i especially enjoy because of the name of the piece. if you're unfamiliar with the word arete from greek, it means, basically, ability and greatness. hector, achilles, odysseus..these men had arete. and so does the portrait's subject. he could join their pantheon with ease.
