Sunday, May 02, 2004 np: echo and the bunnymen - ocean rain oh, my god...so tell me brutus, how is frozen hell? i've never been more proud of my home state than i have been in the last week or so. first off, ed cone let me know that someone democratic is finally gearing up to take on howard coble this fall. his name is will jordan and is a local attorney here in greensboro. needless to say, this man needs support. i will personally be beating the drum as soon as i know any sort of information about his campaign. stay tuned for that. if you wish to read my problems with howard coble, this is the closest i come, unfortunately, given the rather heated fury with which i went after him last year. bottom line: i don't support him as the house representative from this district, but he's rather entrenched. as cone mentions, this is the first democrat to actually run against coble since the late 90s. all other has been token opposition at best. this is the chance. this is the year. meanwhile, two polls show some disturbing trends (well, disturbing for bush) in the old north state. first, his approval ratings are down if still holding about 50/50. (50/50 in this case meaning 50% approve and the rest is split between unsure and disapprove.) this is a sincerely hopeful sign. this second poll, although it's a partisan poll so take it with a grain of salt, show erskine bowles with a nine point lead in the open NC senate seat being vacated by john edwards. that will most likely change as his likely opponent, richard burr, gets his name recognition up in the state (bowles leads burr in name recongition 87-50 in the last polls taken). all the same, good news is good news. not to mention the presidential poll which has kerry within seven points of bush here in NC. this is unreal given how easily bush carried north carolina in 2000. all this is major fire in the forge for progressive workers in north carolina between now and november. can you tell i'm excited? posted by J.
