for those of you not doing the math, this puts north carolina in a statistical dead heat. i do believe my heart just skipped a beat, no lie.
to go along with this poll, here's an interesting article put together by an NC native about why exactly north carolina is in play for november. despite the accepted conventional wisdom, north carolina is easily one of the south's most democratic states. of our last 27 governors (those serving since 1877), only three have been republican. our largest cities and counties all have largely democratic councils/board of commissioners and of the five largest cities in the state, only one (charlotte, with the honorable pat "living wages equals socialism" mccrory) has a sitting republican mayor. so, the head scratches shouldn't come quite so readily.

i would like to call your attention to a new column of links to the right of the page. 'notes of endorsement' is the list of official campaign sites of candidates officially endorsed by this blog in their respective elections. first on the list is jeff thigpen: guilford college alumni; youngest person ever elected to guilford county board of commissioners; willie nelson fan. to me, those three items spell out game, set and match against any of his opponents in the race for register of deeds of guilford county. he has the official notes from underground seal of endorsement.
