His blue shirt sleeves pushed up, the president stood with the river behind him, a highway bridge arcing gracefully away. He offered no new details on his programs for the next few years, sticking to his standard stump speech about keeping America strong and safe. "We stand for things," Bush told the crowd of several thousand. "We stand for something."
bush/cheney 2004: we stand for things.
for those of you who care, the other two best laughs of the day came when i recalled how i met my friend michael. he was in a rather droll, lecture-only political science class with me my freshman year. i noticed him writing a lot of notes, but soon, upon inspection, noticed he was mainly writing 'satan' over and over in his notebook. hilarious.
the other moment: in our 'understanding poverty' workshop this morning, while dealing with the 'casual' language of po' folks, we spent a period of time working on a sheet where we 'translated' casual statements into 'formal' english. "i'm chillin'" then became "i don't feel like doing anything of importance at this time."
i rather enjoyed my translation of "that's my dog" as "this particular canine would be properly identified as belonging to me." but then again, i'm only occasionally witty.
