np: noahjohn - had a burning

i would've posted about this on saturday had i not had to immediately run to the hills (of asheville). however, the piedmont blogging conference, to my eyes, was a rousing success. some really fantastic discussions took place in a format i was very pleased to see. by and large, the discussions were moderated by ed cone and (to a smaller, but no lesser, extent) david hoggard but were mostly left up to the able helmsmanship of the audience. a whole slew of diverse and rambunctious voices were eager to leap into the fray as we went from discussing the potential role of blogs in political campaigns (both national and local) to the role of bloggers as potential journalists and finally the potential for blogs to unite communities. the last topic was especially important to me as we look at how to rescue 'media' from the dregs of homogenous national agendas. blogs can be the way to re-inject the feeling of the regional aesthetic into news and media in general.

a great romp all in all. my local motion blog roll (to the right) will be much fuller in the coming days as a result. not only was it odd to find out that i already knew some people (j.w. for instance), but it was nice to feel something really akin with everyone in the room. notes from underground seal of endorsement holder jeff thigpen (running for register of deeds here in guilford county) was there. and he was immediately onto me about working the polls on november 2nd. "you guys have election day off don't you," he asked with a politician's gleam in his eye. i have a mandatory teacher work day that day, but i'd do just about anything to get out of my classroom on election day. i know i won't get anything accomplished anyway. so i may have to only work in the afternoon/evenings, but jeff is going to have me out poll runnin' on nov. 2nd. huzzah. i'm excited.

biggest on my list of meet-ups was eric muller who runs a fantastic blog. i was sorry i wasn't a better conversationalist. i felt i left him a bit underwhelmed when we actually shook hands at the end of the conference. i take all the blame as you normally can't shut me up. i was already antsy to blow town to get on the road to asheville. so, forgive me, eric.

tonight! i blog my PTSA open house, live! by that i mean, so few parents will show up, that i'll have a period of time to just sit here and blog. c'est la parental involvement.
