np: pavement - wowee zowee!

There, he said. You see? You see how this is bad for one's billiard game? This thinking? The French have come into my house to mutilate my billiard game. No evil is beyond them. - from All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy

i just found that passage to be rather amusing. thought i'd share.

so it's friday. the work week is done. i'm sitting here in my planning period spending a bit of relaxing time before doing some work that needs doin' a-fore i leave. but there are a few things.

first off, WQFS and WUAG (UNC-Greensboro) are currently locked, 43/43 in the go triad vote for best local college radio station. if you are a resident of the triad and have not voted, please go cast a vote for WQFS. it's terribly obvious we're the best station in the world, let alone the triad. (slight hyperbole...very slight) so help us out and let your voice be heard. plus, listen to my show.

i'm going to see the greensboro bats play the second-to-last home game in the historic world war memorial stadium. the bats have played their home games there for seventy-four years and will be moving to the new uptown stadium next season. i'm really starting to feel at home in this town, in a way that makes me feel like i really identify with the city. i've lived here for 5 years now, but when you're in college it's hard to want to branch out into the city like an actual resident. now that i've been a resident proper for a year, i'm starting to really love calling greensboro home.

tomorrow is the piedmont blog conference and i'm terribly excited. not to mention i got linked(!) on ed cone's blog today. i mean, it was totally in collaboration with the conference, but i was also added to his local list. i felt so cool.

finally, i'll share this. today, in review for their unit test on mythology and folktales in world literature, my classes played a game. one of the possible questions that stumped many of the kids:

No one would ever say 'Do you live in a barn?' to Coyote from "Coyote and the Origin of Death." Why is that?

Answer: Because he shut the door to the grass shack which would have allowed the medicine men to bring departed souls back to their bodies.

get it?!?! he shut the door! so no one would ever ask him..do you live in a barn?!?! hah!
