so a couple of notes: first off, looks as if bush is going to appoint alberto gonzales as the new attorney general to replace the departing ashcroft. there are two important things to keep in mind about gonzales. one) he was the person who drafted bush's okaying of certain types of torture in dealing with potential "terrorists." in other words - abu ghraib is firmly at his feet. so is the way guantanamo bay has been run. so he's just as potentially dangerous as ashcroft to civil rights. and two) the republicans will try to paint any democrat objection to his appointment as a slur against hispanics. the framing of this debate has to become gonzales = abu ghraib, not anti-gonzales = anti-hispanic.
For a year, Julee Lacey stopped in a CVS pharmacy near her home in a Fort Worth suburb to get refills of her birth-control pills. Then one day last March, the pharmacist refused to fill Lacey's prescription because she did not believe in birth control.
this is not something new. i've written on this subject before and will link my relevant post when i can locate it. really, ultimately, the far right agenda is not so much anti-abortion as it is anti-choice, as in reproductive choice. the fact that some states are actually upholding these pharmacists' rights to refuse to fill people's legally obtained prescriptions is abhorrent.
