np: silence.

today has been a trying day.

first off, no surprise in seeing colin powell say goodbye. i will be attuned to who is picked as his replacement though. things are bound to get interesting.

a very sad moment in the midsts of a good weekend (UNC besting wake forest and the panthers finally winning again): the death of ol' dirty bastard. dirty and the wu-tang clan's contribution to 90s hip-hop is unavoidable. his un-chainable demeanor and fractured id persona were standouts even in a group as multi-faceted and talented as the wu-tang clan. although he was greatly overshadowed by jail time and other run-ins with the law, his contributions to wu-tang's immortal classic, enter the wu-tang (36 chambers), and his debut solo record, return to the 36 chambers, are undeniable landmarks on the face of hip-hop.

i'm off to chapel hill tonight to see matthew sweet. it's been nearly 5 years since i saw him last, so needless to say i am thrilled to see a man whom i still consider to be one of the greatest inheritors of the legacy of great, uplifting guitar pop music.

i feel very beaten today. if i didn't have so much work i should be doing, tonight's show would be a great way to shed the day. as it is, it's just delaying.
