np: brian eno - taking tiger mountain (by strategy)
i've tried to keep the music rambling confined over there on j's indie/rock mayhem, but being such an important part of my day to day existence, i have to do a bit of rambling.
first off, not only is it pearl harbor day, but as anyone who has paid close attention to the lyrics of "eyeball kid" knows:
Well, Zenora Bariella and Coriander Pyle
They had sixteen children in the usual style.
They had a curio museum and they had no guile.
All they ever wanted was a showbiz child.
The seventh of December Ninteen-forty-nine
They got what they'd been wishing for all of the time.
He grew up in a trailer, by the time he was nine
He rolled off to join the circus, telling fortunes on the side
Hail, Hail! The Eyeball Kid!
happy 55th b-day, tom waits. for all the happiness you've given me (and your countless other fans), may as many come back your way.
next, this story from pitchfork media led me on a bit of a shopping spree. i am now the proud owner of one of the limited edition hot snakes 7" recordings of their peel session: the last recording john peel ever resided over on his radio show.
finally, i woke up this morning humming this beautiful song. it was in my dream, it was with me all morning. sadly i've forgotten it. i'm fairly sure it's something i've heard recently, but i can't place it. have i, perhaps, let another devil's sonata slip away? sadly, i do not know.
