np: sunday evening coming down.
via kos, over on the american street we have this wonderful post about the current kansas evolution debate.
intelligent design ruffles my feathers a bit. not because i'm an atheist or some other knee-jerk reactionary excuse. rather, because god thinks more of us than that. how do i know?
intelligent design, as best i can understand it, comes down to the following theorum: IF we cannot understand exactly what happened THEN we will explain it simply by saying god did it.
god thought enough of humanity to create us with intellect and brains capable of solving and delving into so many of the mysteries of the world around us. to explore and behold the mystical plane of our existence. evolution and its brother scientific explorations celebrate god and our universe; it does not denounce them.
to give up and roll over, simply saying we don't know so therefore we explain it by saying god did it, is an insult to the very power that gave us intellect in the first place. to explore science and to put forth new ideas and to take wild guesses and go for broke in the attempt to explain one more bit of the universe; that is truly god's work.
to insult the intelligence of our children by giving them the option to bow out of understanding the world around them is blasphemy. science celebrates creation. how could it be any other way?
